But fair play for raising a bucket load of cash for a great cause and crossing that finish line will certainly be an achievement to be proud of.

    All the best.

  24. Bike In Box

    Fingers in plasters

  25. Fitting a bike back into the box it was delivered in is near impossible I am told. Fingeres crossed, it could be an angry couple of days....

  26. maps maps maps routes route routes

panic need more stuff- need less stuff

actually need more stuff that is lighter

  27. don't panic Mr Mainwaring.

They don't like it up them

  28. A week this Thursday - I think this means I am now in the "rest period"..... which started in about January.

  29. Got lost in Milton Keynes.... back to the drawing board!

  30. 19 days.... oh good lord.

  31. Vindictive Sy vindictive.

The honing of the athletes has begun, belatedly admittedly but 50 days is a long old time.

its not is it? oh well at least starting in Scotland its all downhill!

  32. 50 Days guys ;)

  33. I did a Devon Coast to nearly Coast on Friday, from what I can remember it was all uphill.

Bit of a wierd start in Barnstaple as there were hundreds of people lining the streets to see us off waving flags and taking photos, then they hung around and welcomed some marines back from Afghanistan which was nice of them.

Saturday was spent crying quietly and trying not to move too much.

68 days and it will all be over

  34. Chatted to bloke in bike shop. He is happy for us to have the boxes that his bikes are delivered in. Do you want me to pick 2 up for you guys?

  35. Whilst I wasn't out cycling yesterday, the most inconsiderate HGV driver in Britain didn't follow me for about a mile revving his engine on my rear wheel before trying to run me off the road. So that's twice in about two weeks that a motorist hasn't tried to kill me whilst I wasn't training. As the traffic is so horrendous, could I suggest that we either carry samurai swords with which to attack any offending vehicles (especially Nissan Micras) OR that we nominate a "beacon rider" to ride at the back who is highly visible ... any suggestions??

  36. As the counter turns over to 80 days.... im glad to say that training has started to pick up for the final person.....ME!

Pancho is leading the preperation table, with a total of 15 triathlons, 10,000 miles on the saddle, 4000 miles running and a strict diet of porridge and cheap baked beans. Paul is way behind in 2nd with a new found entusiasm to ride to work and back 4 days a week. I'm now jumping onboard the "Preperation Train" and have managed to do a couple of work and back trips. The trainer is also being moved back infront of the very small TV (thanks to the robbers....) to encourage some evening training.

    Getting scary now....

  37. Have we actually told Pancho the date we are starting on?

I think Mark and I may need to start a week earlier

see you on the 27th in John o'Groats Pancho

  38. I shan't relate any further rivetting tales of epic training rides lest they induce cardiac arrest in my fellow JOGLE reprobates. I would point out however that even if we were to travel at today's top speed of 47.3mph, it would still take around 24 hours non-stop to complete our mission. Do the math ladies, do the math!!! ;-)

  39. I'd just like to point out that when Pancho mentions that 'we' may reach out goal fitness he actually means 'he'. I am still in the carb loading stage of training..... although proper training does commence next week (for me).

  40. Mudguards!!!

Will you be wearing slippers and smoking a pipe at the campsites too?

Please hurry up and get a job, so you will have to stop doing all this training

  41. Saturday's adventure was a ride out to Ledbury from Worcester which involved climbing over the Malvern Hills twice, all for a pint of Bathams and a cream cake, hoorah!! Today (Monday), have just returned from a 4 hour ride around the Bredon Hill villages, the Lenches & Inkberrow & was very nearly run over by an impatient motorist. The upshot is that I'm starting to feel that we may achieve our JOGLE goal fitness wise BUT we need to get to the end in one piece as not all motorists are gonna be cheering us on!!

  42. Not sure whether this will go onto the site as I wrote something last Friday that wasn't posted. Rode to Cheltenham today & picked up some full mudguards so I can look like a proper tourer when I cycle to Oxford for the weekend, hoorah!!

  43. Did a quick 63 miler to Birmingham & back from Worcester on Friday. Bit of an eye opener really ... the fact that I still ache today isn't a problem (still went out yesterday & this morning to blast the lactic out of my legs) ... the worry was the amount of vibration through the bike to my arms, causing electric like shocks in my elbows after 50 miles. Tiredness & muscle fatigue, whilst undesirable, are tolerable but hanging onto a bike in agony at every bump in the road is enough to make the eyes water. I shall have to go busking to raise funds for some gel tape for my handlebars, although I still remain sceptical about mere tape preventing such agonising debilitatin electric shocks. Fingers crossed! :-S

  44. We have been busy with our wallets this month - does this count as training?

Lidl had a sale of bike stuff - so we now all have matching panniers so whilst we might not be able to cycle but we will look co-ordinated when the ambulance arrives.

We now have a big tent from tesco (yep that famous camping shop) and sleeping stuff.

Typical boys all the gear no idea

  45. Lovely 40 miler round the base of Bredon on the road bike. Nearly lost it on a downhill bend which was rather worrying for a brief moment. So inspired that I plan to do more of the same tomorrow, hoorah %-))

  46. What a fantastic day ... Lovely weather allowed me to cycle without wearing 50 layers of clothing. Did 10 miles to Pershore pool, had a good hour swimming then took a longer 15 mile route back ... Would feel great about it had I not had my arse kicked on the bike by a woman of more senior years on a mountain bike with off road tyres all the way & also had my arse kicked by a few people in the pool too :-S June 20th seems too near!!!!

  47. Well we are nearly 2 months into our training with 4 and a bit to go.

Training will have to start properly fairly soon as 45 mins on a trainer in the kitchen whilst watching the footy probably will not see me through 950 odd miles in 14 days.

On the plus side Pancho seems to be riding his unicycle more than his bike so that may slow him to my pace,( just looking for some panniers for unicycles ).

Also on the plus side I seem to have cracked the carb loading and my food intake is up to the levels I will need for arduous training , just got to get the training levels up now. Or buy a stronger bike(with engine)

Remind me again who's stupid idea was this!

  48. Today I found out how hard training for this is actually going to be. A 45 minute intense (fairly) ride and I can barely type let alone walk or ride anywhere. 10 times this much each day for 14 days seems a very very long way away.

I suppose it wouldn't be a much of a challenge if it wasn't hard.

    Onwards and upwards.

  49. After taking eleven days to mend the aforementioned puncture (Paul's entry on 12/11/09) and in the meantime spending several hours learning to unicycle until I broke it (it was me or the unicycle & I won), I'm beginning to wonder whether it might be more sensible to walk JOGLE :-S

  50. Paul & I have had some extra excersise this week so far due to us unfortunately being burgled!

In the early hours of Tuesday the 13th (whats the odds...) some nice gentlemen let themselves into our rented house in Milton Keynes and stole several items including my TV, both our laptops, Puals phone and my Car. Just to rub salt in the wound for Paul, they left his car and just stole his keys. All in all this has left me without my cycle gear (was in my car) and my bike (in Pauls car, which we cant get into).

One 6 - 7 mile round trip to B & Q yesterday to buy new door lock and a 4 mile ish walk to Tesco and back today have provided us with this weeks training.

Riding to work seems likely next week, certainly for me, unless of course the car turns up!!!

  51. Our first team outing ended in disaster (well actually it ended in a Burger Bar for Mark and I)

Pancho had a puncture on the way to meet us (so he said) and had no spares so went for the early bath.

Mark and I soldiered on into a howling gale, through multiple punctures (Mark 2 Me 0) and biting cold to bravely complete a circuit of Bredon Hill off road (see photos)

Lands end has never looked so far away

  52. My new toy arrived in the post today,

the kitchen is now full of shiny new bikeness.

The saddle looks like it could be a world of pain but i will report back tomorrow as long as I can stand up to type

  53. Can we take performance enhancing drugs like Toblerone??? 30 miles (Worcester to Evesham return) on the flat in 2 1/2 hours...will we be getting sherpas to carry our gear & water??? :-S

  54. Gareth AKA Pancho is going on a 30 - 40 miles ride today. Im sure he will report back here with a detailed account of how it went!

  55. My Carb loading is going extremely well

  56. Paul and Mark join a GYM

Thats right, we have done the hardest part of all...... we have joined. No wait, thats the easy part.

With regular sessions planned, we are sure that our levels on fitness will be spot on come June (honest).

  57. Tewksbury Test Run

Mark & Paul are planning a test weeking in Jan/Feb. Leaving on a Saturday morning from

Milton Keynes we plan on cycling to Pauls wonderful abode in Tewksbury which is about 70 miles

(which coincedently is the average daily mileage we will have to do to complete JOGLE).

We will spend the evening in sunny Gloucestershire before doing the return journey on Sunday.

Hopefully this will give us an idea of where we will need to be in June as far as fitness goes.
