Day 7

Route: Abington to Carlisle - 62 miles

ENGLAND

Cue Holy Lamb of God , Spear, Bow … My backside feels like I have been riding a Chariot of Fire for the last few days so you can keep that.

After yesterdays marathon we

surprisingly got a fairly early start on

the climb out of Abington, this climb

didn’t last long as it appears last

night in the gloom we climbed to

the highest place in the entire world

so had a fantastic everlasting

descent through Lockerbie and on

to Gretna.

Prepare yourself dear reader for

a tale of woe beyond all others,

perhaps have a Kleenex to hand

for today we broke the NO GOING

BACK RULE!

The day was looking great until my

bike decided it wanted to join the

circus by becoming the Clown bike.

Since the breaking of the pannier

rack my back wheel has not been

very healthy with spokes breaking

left right and centre, this caused a

massive buckle which coupled with

the weight of the bags it created the

comical wobble which caused the

Little Prince much amusement

Anyway not having found a bike shop

in Lockerbie “Oh aye there was wun

once but nay more” I managed to

nurse it to just north of Gretna when

it gave up the ghost.

We had to catch a taxi to Carlisle

where I got it fixed. Strangely we

met Rob from www.macride.org.uk

whose trip we stole much of the

route from , Unfortunately we met

him as we got out of the Taxi looking

like a bunch of cheats!! So Rob just

for you we got the bike fixed booked

into a hotel and then rode back to

Gretna to get the obligatory border

photos.

Thanks to Palace cycles for the

wheel repair whilst we relaxed at

Pancho’s eatery (I think I may have

to call the DSS helpline Pancho)

and for providing us with a quick

route back to Gretna so we could

get there and back in time for tea.

Food update

Little Prince Update

We saw a Cubby Construction van

 twice today (unfortunately no photos)

The Little Prince enjoys downhill as

he travels faster than me rolling

downhill ( I can’t think why!)

He also says that his little royal

bottom has never hurt so much, so

if you are reading this Chubb it

sounds like a Stag do challenge

may have laid down.
