Day 1
Route: John o'Groats to Lybster - 35 Miles Covered
So we are here, and last nights weather did not fill us with the greatest of confidence. Also, choosing to camp in an open area on the the edge of the coast at JOG was not a great idea. It soon made sense why everyone else was crammed together behind a small collection of bushes..
As you will see from the gallery we had all the "official" photos at JOG done and due to this and the unfortunate conditions we didnt set off until around 11am. We passed many people doing LE - JOG on the way, a few unsupported, a few supported and one man completing the last stage of this RUN to JOG!!!
Tesco's in Wick proved to be our first stop -
with the main aim being to stock up on
supplies before we headed into the
wilderness. Our goal was to reach Helmsdale,
around 60 miles from JOG. Sadly the Scottish
weather decided it was going to have a strop
and threw us a meteorological curve ball,
a 25 mph headwind along with some "not so
refreshing" terrential rain! We sought cover
in a bus shelter just outside a town called
Lybster and attempted to see if the weather
would pass.
Sadly half an hour later it clearly wasnt going
anywhere. It is in Lybster that we remain now,
in a nice little hotel after a well needed
shower!
The plan tomorrow is to set off nice and early
and make a little more progress than the
mere 35 miles covered today.... lets hope the
weather picks up (and not the wind...)
Wildlife Watch
Plenty of hairy Scottish cows
Some more regular looking cows
Nothing more exciting to report sadly....
